🚨 Hazing Victims in Texas County, Oklahoma: Your Legal Rights & How Attorney 911 Can Help
Hazing isn’t tradition. It’s abuse. And in Texas County, Oklahoma, it’s illegal.
If you or someone you love has been the victim of hazing at a fraternity, sorority, sports team, or any other student organization in Texas County — whether at a local high school, college, or university — you have legal rights. You don’t have to suffer in silence. You don’t have to pay for their crimes. And you don’t have to fight them alone.
At Attorney 911, we’re currently fighting a $10 million lawsuit against Pi Kappa Phi and the University of Houston for hazing that hospitalized a student with kidney failure from forced extreme exercise, waterboarding, and beatings. This isn’t just happening in Texas — it’s happening right here in Oklahoma. And we’re bringing that same fight to Texas County.
🔍 Is This Happening in Texas County?
You might be thinking:
“This only happens at big universities. Not here in Texas County.”
But you’d be wrong.
Hazing happens everywhere. In small towns. In rural counties. In Oklahoma. And yes — in Texas County.
Where Hazing Could Be Happening Near You:
While Texas County itself is home to Guymon Public Schools and Panhandle State University’s Guymon campus, students from Texas County often attend larger universities where Greek life and hazing culture thrive:
- Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Goodwell, OK) – Just 30 minutes from Guymon; has active Greek organizations
- Southwestern Oklahoma State University (Weatherford, OK) – 3 hours east; strong Greek life presence
- University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK) – 4.5 hours east; major Greek system
- Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK) – 4.5 hours east; major Greek system
- Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) – 3.5 hours southwest; major Greek system
The same national fraternities and sororities that operate at these schools have chapters right here in Oklahoma — and they bring the same dangerous culture with them.
What Hazing Looks Like in Texas County:
Hazing isn’t just “boys being boys” or “girls bonding.” It’s abuse disguised as tradition. In our current case, we’ve documented:
✅ Waterboarding with garden hoses – Simulated drowning, a form of torture
✅ Forced to do 500+ squats, 100+ pushups – Until muscles break down (rhabdomyolysis)
✅ Struck with wooden paddles – Physical assault with weapons
✅ Forced to eat until vomiting – Then forced to keep running
✅ Sleep deprivation – Forced to drive members at all hours
✅ Humiliation – Carrying sexual objects, stripping in cold weather
✅ Psychological torture – Threats of expulsion, social ostracism
This isn’t hazing. This is assault. This is battery. This is illegal.
And if it’s happening at universities near Texas County, it could be happening to students from Texas County right now.
⚖️ Your Legal Rights in Texas County, Oklahoma
1. Oklahoma Has Strong Anti-Hazing Laws
Oklahoma bans hazing under 21 O.S. § 1190 — the Oklahoma Anti-Hazing Law.
Definition of Hazing in Oklahoma:
Any activity expected of someone joining or maintaining membership in an organization that intentionally or recklessly endangers their physical or mental health or safety.
This includes:
- Physical brutality (beatings, paddling, branding)
- Forced consumption (alcohol, food, drugs)
- Sleep deprivation
- Psychological abuse
- Any activity that creates unreasonable risk of harm
Penalties in Oklahoma:
| Offense | Punishment |
|---|---|
| Hazing (misdemeanor) | Up to 1 year in jail and/or $500 fine |
| Hazing causing great bodily harm (felony) | Up to 5 years in prison and/or $2,500 fine |
| Hazing causing death (felony) | Up to 10 years in prison and/or $10,000 fine |
Important: Consent is NOT a defense in Oklahoma. Even if someone “agreed” to participate, the law still holds perpetrators accountable.
2. You Can Sue for Civil Damages
Even if criminal charges aren’t filed, you can sue for money damages in civil court. This includes compensation for:
| Type of Damage | What It Covers | Example for Hazing Victims |
|---|---|---|
| Medical Bills | Hospital stays, doctor visits, therapy, medications | ER visit for alcohol poisoning; therapy for PTSD |
| Future Medical Care | Long-term treatment, rehabilitation | Dialysis if kidneys are damaged; ongoing mental health care |
| Lost Wages | Time missed from work | Missing work during recovery |
| Pain and Suffering | Physical pain from injuries | Pain from paddling, forced exercise, waterboarding |
| Emotional Distress | Anxiety, depression, PTSD | Nightmares, fear of social situations, trust issues |
| Punitive Damages | Punishment for outrageous conduct | Waterboarding, forced vomiting, extreme physical abuse |
In our current case, we’re seeking $10 million — and we’re prepared to fight for Texas County victims too.
3. Who Can Be Sued?
Hazing cases aren’t just about the individuals who participated. We sue everyone who enabled the abuse:
| Defendant | Why They’re Liable |
|---|---|
| Local Chapter | Directly organized and conducted hazing |
| National Organization | Failed to supervise; knew about hazing culture |
| University/College | Failed to protect students; may own the property where hazing occurred |
| Chapter Officers | Leaders who directed hazing (president, pledgemaster, etc.) |
| Individual Members | Anyone who participated in or witnessed hazing |
| Alumni | Hosted hazing events at their homes |
| Spouses of Members | Allowed hazing on their property |
| Insurance Companies | Policies may cover damages |
This isn’t about suing broke college kids. It’s about holding institutions with deep pockets accountable.

📞 What to Do If You or Someone You Love Was Hazed in Texas County
1. Get Medical Help Immediately
- Go to the emergency room if you have any injuries
- Even if you feel “fine,” get checked — some injuries (like rhabdomyolysis) take time to appear
- Document everything — keep all medical records
2. Preserve Evidence
- Take photos of any injuries (bruises, cuts, burns)
- Save all communications — texts, GroupMe, Snapchat, Instagram DMs
- Write down everything you remember — dates, times, locations, who was involved
- Get witness names and contact info — other pledges, bystanders
- Do NOT delete anything — even if it’s embarrassing
3. Do NOT Talk to the Organization or Their Lawyers
- They will try to control the narrative
- They will try to minimize what happened
- They may offer you money to stay quiet
- Do not sign anything without talking to a lawyer first
4. Report the Hazing
- To the university/school – File a formal complaint
- To the police – Hazing is a crime in Oklahoma
- To the national organization (if Greek life) – They may claim they’re “shocked”
