On the evening of April 11, 2026, a 35-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by an 18-wheeler on Texas Highway 36 (TX-36) near Gatesville, Texas. The incident followed a confrontation with Gatesville Police after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a local establishment in the 4600 block of TX-36. According to the Gatesville Police Department, officers were called to the scene around 9:21 p.m. after a business requested that the individual be banned from the premises. Approximately 40 minutes later, officers located the man walking in the 4000 block of TX-36—just a few miles from the initial call. Witnesses report that the man pulled out a knife and urged officers to shoot him before suddenly stepping into the roadway and directly into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. The truck struck the man and then fled the scene, leaving him critically injured. Emergency responders transported the victim to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with injuries of unknown severity.
